Terms of use
Portage is an interface to protocols. This page says plainly what that means for you, in the order in which it matters.
We never hold your funds
The deposit address always comes from the protocol executing your swap. We do not generate addresses, do not receive funds, do not forward them and hold no keys that could move them. During the swap your assets are in that protocol's vault, and you are taking on that protocol's risk - which is why we always name the protocol behind each route.
We are not an exchange
We do not match orders, hold balances or keep accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no identity check, because there is no account to attach one to. We also do not aggregate liquidity: a swap goes to one protocol whole and is never split between venues.
A quote is not a promise
Prices come from the protocols and change every few seconds. A quote is valid for the short window shown on screen; after that it has to be taken again. Alongside every route we show the minimum you will receive, and that number is what we pass to the protocol - if the market moves past it, the protocol refunds rather than executes.
The address is yours to get right
We check the destination address against the network you picked, on your device and on our server, and we refuse anything that is clearly wrong for that network. That check cannot tell a correct address from someone else's correct address. Funds sent to the wrong address are not recoverable - not by us, not by the protocol. Asset and network are one thing, never two: the same ticker on a different network is a different asset.
What we cannot do
We cannot cancel, reverse or speed up a swap once funds have left your wallet: it is the protocol that executes and the protocol that refunds. What we can do is tell you where your funds are, explain what the protocol reported, and help you talk to it. We also do not guarantee that the service is available at any given moment. Protocols go down, networks halt, and a route that existed yesterday can be gone today.
Cash exchange is someone else's business
The cash exchange screen hands your request to Hermes Crypto Exchange and takes you to their chat. They are a separate business: we do not touch the assets. Nothing said on this page applies to them.
